National Consultation on Adaptation and Disaster Resilience in India INDC

 Alternative Futures and civil society members with Environment Minister Prakash Javdekar urging a strong focus on food and water security as also disaster reduction for poor men and women in India’s just released Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) document dealing with climate solutions.
 
 
A National Consultation on ‘Adaptation and Disaster Resilience in India’s Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs)’ will be held on July 23-24, 2015 in New Delhi. The consultation will focus on three key areas: food security and agriculture; water security; and forests and biodiversity keeping disaster resilience central to the discussions and recommendations. Participants include government officers as also practitioners and researchers from the Centre and the States. 

The Consultation is being jointly organized by Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA), Alliance for Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction  (AADRR), Alternative Futures and Development Alternatives in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India. India and all member countries are expected to submit their INDCs document at the global climate negotiations to be held in Paris later this year. The INDCs will include scale of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as also resilient adaptive actions within countries. India's INDCs are expected to be finalised by October 2015.
